The Registered Cultural Asset is a system established by the Cultural Properties Protection Law in 1996, which is intended for building structures that were built more than 50 years ago, and which are known and loved by the people in the community. Moreover, candidate sites must be deemed difficult to rebuild based on today’s technologies and therefore historically valuable. Based on the application made by the relevant owner, the property is thus examined by the government’s “Culture Council”, and if approved to be registered in “Cultural Property Register”, it becomes a “Registered Cultural Asset”.
